What is a Subluxation?

If you have recently been diagnosed with a subluxation you may be concerned. This certainly sounds like a complex serious condition. While it can be serious, subluxation is merely a term that describes misalignments in one or more vertebrae of the spine. Here at Back To Health Wellness Center – your chiropractor in Sarasota – we understand this condition and how to treat it to restore you to your optimal level of wellness.

Subluxation & Chiropractic Care

These misalignments often cause interference with nerve signals. This, in turn, limits communication between the brain and body leaving it unable to function at optimal levels. Moreover, subluxation often causes loss of mobility and back pain. One of the primary focuses of chiropractic care is the treatment of these misalignments.

Causes of Misalignment

There are three main cause of subluxations referred to as The Three Ts: Thoughts, Toxins, and Trauma. They can happen at any age and nobody is immune to them.

The word “thoughts” indicates stress which is the leading cause of subluxation. This is because stress causes the muscles of the upper back and neck to tighten.

Toxins are a less obvious cause of subluxation. They create build-ups and imbalances that cause muscle contractions, altered muscle fiber length, and other issues leading to subluxation.

Major trauma’s such as those from an accident or microtraumas the body goes through every day can cause subluxation. These daily traumas include repetitive motions, poor sleeping habits, and poor ergonomic support.

Chiropractic Care for Subluxation

Chiropractic care is the only avenue for treatment of subluxations. It requires ongoing treatment once the subluxation has been located and analyzed. We will also work to help alleviate the causes to prevent future subluxations. Utilizing chiropractic treatment methods such as manual spinal manipulation, active release techniques, spinal decompression, and therapeutic deep tissue massage subluxations can be corrected.
