Golf Injury

Golf Injuries At Back To Health Wellness Center in Sarasota, FL!

Golf is great exercise.  Not only are you able to be outside to enjoy nature, but you are able to freely walk and move throughout the course.  Golf allows us to socialize with our friends and get a little competitive in the process.  Having a golf injury though can prevent you from doing what you enjoy.  Below, let's look at some of the most common golf injuries and understand how a chiropractor is able to help fix and prevent these injuries in the future.

elbow pain

Common Golf Injuries

  • Low Back Pain - Regardless of your age or skill level, low back pain continues to be the number one injury from golfing.  Several movements in golf, such as a loose downswing, can cause pain the lower back.  This pain can be either acute or chronic.
  • Golfer's Elbow - Pain in the elbow, commonly referred to as Golfer's Elbow is usually experienced by novice golfers.  The main cause of this is from a golfer changing a stance, grip, or swing repeatedly.  Another common cause of Golfer's Elbow is gripping the club too tightly.
  • Shoulder Pain - The AC joint in the shoulder is typically the site of shoulder pain in golfers.  This is almost always felt in the front facing shoulder when the golfer swings.  This type of pain manifests when the golfer uses his or her arms too much in the swing.  If left untreated, pain in the AC joint can leave a golfer off the green for weeks at a time.
  • Wrist Pain - Wrist pain can be felt in novices and experienced golfers alike.  It typically stems from taking too many swings, either during a game or during practice.  Another source of wrist pain can be from hitting the ball "fat".  This puts undue strain and wears on the wrists.

How Athletes can Benefit from Chiropractic Care

A chiropractor works to help restore balance to the body.  Not only does this mean working to align the spine, but also keeping the muscles and soft tissues surrounding them flexible, healthy, and strong.  A chiropractor is able to help cure both chronic and acute injuries, but also through stretching and strengthening, able to help prevent future injuries.  Athletes benefit greatly from working with a chiropractor because they are able to cure injuries with noninvasive techniques, and are also able to improve their body's condition and balance.
